I tried the XOR/chaining route rather than stopping at the hex.

The likely hex candidate is:

I tested:

  • all 256 single-byte XOR keys → no meaningful plaintext
  • repeating-key XOR using the known crib CYBERCOM{ → key lengths 1–8 are mathematically inconsistent; length 9 decrypts the rest to garbage
  • C[i] XOR C[i-1] and C[i] XOR C[i+1] → garbage
  • chained XOR plus a constant key → inconsistent with CYBERCOM{
  • XOR against reversed ciphertext / two halves → garbage
  • XOR at the ASCII-hex level → no useful secondary encoding
  • XOR at the nibble level → no useful plaintext
  • rotating previous ciphertext byte before XOR, all 8 rotations → none match the flag prefix
  • simple index/rolling XOR and add/subtract chains → none match
  • common key-derived SHA-256/SHA3/BLAKE2s XOR masks such as cybercom, flag, xor, ctf, etc. → no hit
  • exact-hash lookup/search → no public preimage hit

There is also an important wrinkle in the original data: the binary layer contains two 7-bit chunks. Repairing them in every way that preserves the later Base64/Base32 layers gives six valid hexadecimal endpoints, including the 9bc3... one. I tested the basic XOR/crib attacks against all six; none behaves like weak repeating/chained XOR.

The CYBERCOM{ crib is especially convincing. For the 9bc3... candidate, an ordinary XOR encryption would require the first nine keystream bytes to be:

d8 9a 79 cd b9 1d 7e bc 6f

That looks deliberately high-entropy rather than like a repeating/text key.

So the evidence currently points toward the final 32 bytes being either a 256-bit hash (SHA-256/SHA3-256/BLAKE2s-sized) or ciphertext produced with an actual cryptographic key, rather than another simple encoding/XOR layer. A 64-character hex value alone cannot uniquely identify which 256-bit hash algorithm produced it. (Boneyard Tools)

The useful next attack is therefore challenge-context based: challenge title, hint, category, attached script/source, or any suggested password/key would give us material for a dictionary/KDF/AES/RC4 attack. Without that, inventing CYBERCOM{...} from these 32 bytes would just be guessing.
