The local run keeps /app/recovered_pgdata owned by postgres. GitHub CI can copy or restore declared artifacts between phases, resetting ownership to root. The verifier then launches pg_ctl as postgres, which cannot access a root-owned 0700 data directory.

I fixed task/tests/test_outputs.py by:

  • Restoring postgres:postgres ownership before every PostgreSQL startup.
  • Enforcing the required 0700 PGDATA directory mode.
  • Capturing pg_ctl output, PostgreSQL logs, ownership, group, and permissions when startup fails.
  • Leaving the provided GitHub workflows unchanged.

Validation completed:

  • Python and shell syntax checks passed.
  • Git whitespace checks passed.
  • Output was deterministic across three different PYTHONHASHSEED values.
  • Non-PostgreSQL verifier tests passed: 7 passed.
  • I could not rerun tests 8–10 because this environment does not provide Docker or PostgreSQL binaries.
